About Verzênay Chicago

Verzênay is an award-winning French pâtisserie and bakery in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, founded by Chef Arshiya Farheen in 2014 as a stall in Green City Farmers market. Named one of Tasting Table’s Top 14 French Bakeries in the U.S., Verzênay also earned national honors at the 2025 World Bread Awards USA, including First Place for its challah and Runner-Up for its baguette.

Rooted in classical French techniques, we make pastries, breads, cakes, savory items, and café offerings from scratch, using seasonal ingredients and local Midwest produce whenever possible. Our menu reflects French tradition and thoughtful creativity, with select creations inspired by Chef Arshiya’s Indian heritage.

A very nice bakery place here. They have quite a variety of pastries you can try. Their breakfast menu is very good. I tried their croissant with eeg and chicken sausage. It was very good. I also try a chocolate shortbread. That was also very tasty 😋. The atmosphere here is very nice and comfy. It can be crowded. The staffs here is very nice and friendly. It's a very lovely place!!!

Lovely little spot in Lincoln Park. A nice selection of sweet and savory along with coffees, teas, etc. If it’s busy, space is limited. As long as people are using their inside voices, moderate volume to be able to enjoy conversation with others. The quiche and pear pastry were very good. I would definitely recommend.

Heard a lot about this place. Wanted to try their tarts as this type of French dessert seems to be hard to find here. I mean good ones. Tarts here in Verzenay were good but not great. Lest start from good stuff in raspberry tart: no fruit glaze on raspberry tart, nice vanilla flavour in filling, generous amount of fresh raspberries, perfect shape of tart shell and decoration! Good stuff about lemon tart: I liked the balance of sweetness and tartness, perfect shell shape and merengue! What I didn’t like is the taste and texture of tart shell. It was not crumbly, no flavour as it was not baked to the right rich golden (should be almost like light caramel) colour. Tart shell is not just something that holds filling but gives that great buttery taste along with crumbling texture and it’s half of overall goodness in tarts. Tried quiche with spinach and with potatoes. I liked mine but my partner didn’t like his as potatoes were impossible to taste (but his is not a fan of quiche in general) but maybe we misheard and there were no potatoes in it at all. Cortado was really good! Nice atmosphere, fresh flowers on tables, friendly staff, quick service.

Light, airy space and helpful staff. Lots of places to sit, and self-service water/utensils. Got a cortado and cold brew and thought they were both delicious! I also tried the turkey baguette and wow, the quality of the ingredients shone through. It was simple but delicious, the bread wasn’t tough but still crispy, and they warmed it up which made it even better. I also loved the dairy-free carrot cake with chocolate hazelnut frosting. It was moist and flavorful without being too sweet. Also chef Kat does bagels on Thursdays, so they had a French onion soup bagel featured which looked amazing.

I went here for a holiday tea service and it was wonderful. The amount of savories vs. sweets had a nice balance and standouts were the cream puffs and chicken slider. We were a large group but service managed to be orderly and fast. The blue tea was also good. Love this place!
